Economic Development

Economic Development in Our Community

The RM of Sifton delegates some its economic development initiatives to the Oak Lake Regional Community Development Board. Other initiatives are developed within Council and administration staff.

Economic development is the process of improving the economic well-being and quality of life for its residents. This is achieved through efforts that support job creation, attract investment, enhance local services, and foster sustainable growth.

Goals of municipal economic development include:

  1. Business Attraction and Retention
Supporting existing businesses and attracting new ones helps create jobs, diversify the economy, and increase the local tax base.

  2. Infrastructure Improvement
Investing in roads, utilities, broadband, and community facilities makes the municipality more attractive for residents and businesses.

  3. Workforce Development
Partnering with schools, training programs, and employers ensures the local workforce has the skills needed for today’s job market.

  4. Tourism and Community Promotion
Highlighting the municipality’s unique attractions, events, and amenities brings visitors, boosts local spending, and enhances community pride.

  5. Land Use Planning and Zoning
Strategic planning ensures that development is sustainable, meets community needs, and makes efficient use of land and resources.

  6. Partnerships and Funding
Collaborating with regional organizations, government agencies, and private sector partners helps leverage resources and increase impact.

In summary, economic development  aims to build a resilient, thriving community by creating opportunities for growth, innovation, and prosperity. For more information regarding economic development for the RM of Sifton please contact:
