🌱 What we were doing this week at Souris River Watershed District! 🚜

It has been another meaningful week around the watershed—here’s what our team has been working on:
Protecting groundwater in the Town of Souris
We sealed a well in a basement in the Town of Souris, helping protect local groundwater by safely decommissioning an unused well and reducing the risk of contamination.
Announcing the 2026 SRWD Bursary recipients
We selected the 2026 SRWD Bursary recipients—each year, SRWD awards four bursaries of 1,000 CAD to students from local schools who show strong academics, community involvement, and who are continuing their studies in environment or agriculture–related programs at a college or university.
Oak Lake walleye spawning bed interpretive sign
Staff took part in the unveiling of the new interpretive sign for the Oak Lake walleye spawning bed at Sifton Park, which explains how this 74,500 dollar fish habitat project—built with rock and gravel through the ice in winter 2026—supports healthier walleye populations and encourages responsible boating and lake use.
Thank you for following along and supporting the work we do for water, land, fish, and communities across the Souris River watershed—we wish you all an amazing weekend!
